3) How long are the
trips?
Our cruises are all seven nights long. This allows visitors the
opportunity to see some of the more spectacular sites in the
islands. Shorter itineraries leave out important islands full
of interesting creatures. Most visitors feel that since they
travel a long way to reach these remote volcanic outcroppings,
that the trip should include the most important sites.
4) What are the itineraries
like?
The yachts we offer have different itineraries, but all of them
are good ones. The Galapagos National Park Service allows visits
to only about 50 sites on the islands so different vessels visit
many of the same sites. There are some variations, so look through
the enclosed itineraries and then read about the islands themselves
in our Island Descriptions.
5) How do we get to the Galapagos?
All trips to the Galapagos begin with flights to mainland Ecuador.
The cities of Quito and Guayaquil are very well served by a number
of foreign and American air carriers. From mainland Ecuador there
are daily flights to the island themselves. Our Air and Hotel
Packages include the international flights and also those to
the islands themselves.
6) What size boats
are best, big ones or small ones?
All of the yachts that we offer are midsize. They provide a much
better experience than the large ships that visit the islands.
Too many passengers can spoil the experience. With medium size
boats there is more contact with the guides and our excursions
are more thoughtful. We think that the best Galapagos experience
is with a group size between 16 and 20. Small vessels often cannot
visit the outer islands. The vessels we offer are about the right
size, not too small and not too large.
7) What is the daily
schedule of the Cruises?
The days are spent in exploring the islands on foot, snorkeling,
or scouting in our launches, depending on the island. On most
islands we visit between 2 to 3 different sites. In the evenings
the naturalists brief us on the next days activities and
discuss what we have observed during the day. Though there is
some variation depending on the weather and which island we are
visiting, the normal daily schedule follows a basic routine:
07:00
am Wake up call and breakfast
08:15 am Disembark for first excursion
12:00 am Return to Yacht and Lunch
01:00 pm Free time for siesta, sail to next island
3:00 pm Disembark for second shore excursion
6:00 pm Return to Yacht
7:30 pm Dinner
8:30 pm Evening Briefing
9:00 pm Bar is open, music, games, videos
8) Can I extend my
stay in Ecuador?
Absolutely yes! Ecuador is a lovely country and three or more
extra days can be very well spent there. Many of our passengers
choose to visit the Oriente Rainforest Lodge, the colonial sites
of Quito, the towering volcanoes of the central valley of Ecuador,
or Machu Picchu in Peru.
