Tucano News
In August of this year the Motor Yacht Tucano went through a major revision over a seven week period. We removed all of the furniture and revarnished all of the raised wood panneling with which the walls of all the cabins and salon are covered. We added hot water pressure showers in all of the bathrooms, where previously the system was a gravity fed system. We replaced most of the furniture on board the vessel in addition to the chairs and tables in the Salon. These we had custom made out of a wood called Cerejeira in the State of Rondonia. The vessel is only six years in operation, but the changes that we made have made it even more beautiful and functional. For photos, follow the link to the Motor Yacht Tucano.

Field Notes

A Group by Kapok TreeThis week we completed a Heart of Amazonia trip and our group went all the way up the Rio Negro to the Rio Branco. In addition to a good collection of monkeys, this group also spotted an anteater swimming. The two most common types seen in this part of Amazonia are the Collared Anteater known as the Tamandua and the Giant Anteater. This one that we saw was a Tamandua.

Though we have seen many anteaters over the years, it is extremely rare to see them swimming. They have such a stable food source that they do not frequently move distances through the forest. This individual however was swimming across a river to get to an island. Almost every creature in Amazonia can swim given the great number of giant rivers. It was a wonderful trip, as they all are really.
